It Came From Her Room!

A very quick experiment with keying in AE. Ilene's was shot against a green fabric "screen" slung over the curtain rod in the bathroom. The un-ironed green screen put AE to the test.

Where the Star Wars Thing Started

Well, actually, it was Darth who started it all. Becca seemed to be the right height for Master Yoda and the only thing standing in the way was some thread and a bit of fleece.

Halloween '07

Well, the force was with us last night as we gave the neighborhood a major candy shake-down.

The Finished Spot

Pee Wee Spot

This is a sketch I did for an illustration for Boy's Life for a little article on space. As you can see in the finished piece above the arrangement of boys had to be altered slightly.

Beer in a Can

Plug and Ralphie sing Parry Gripp's awesome song, Beer in a Can. It's about... well, beer...in a can.

Light Beer!

Plug and Ralphie do their part for stamping out beer-gut everywhere! Another blue-ribbon entry from the Parry Gripp Brewery!

Fried Chiken!

Another delicious song from the great Parry Gripp. Go buy "For Those About to Shop We Salute You". Right NOW!

Great Nachos!

We dragged the puppets out for a right fine Parry Gripp fest today. Here's one of 'em.

Message for Laura Ruth Adair

Hey, Ilene got a job! So, watch out all you delinguent book-checker-outerers!

Finished, at Last

This one sat dormant for a bit but finished it up a few minutes ago. I'm going to bed.

Alien Sunday

The kids and I were inspired by our new collection of Invader Zim DVD's and decided to draw some aliens today. This one was guided by the wishes of the little humanoids in my house.

Pie Tin Frisbee

This was a sketch for a spot illustration for Boy's Life on the origins of the Frisbee. Never was quite satisfied with Pee Wee's pose. It's buggin' me, man.

David and I Made a Film!

It's pretty impressive for the several minutes we spent on it. I found this great, free software called Monkey Jam that works with your digital camcorder to make stop-motion movies or pencil tests. It's a blast!

Line Work Done! Thank Goodness

Our air-conditioner is out so my left arm has been sticking to my Wacom tablet as I've been doing the line work. That's probably too much info. Sorry.

It's a bird, it's a plane...nah, it's just David

My friend Tim Stout shot this video of David for his church. Wind provided by two fans and a helpful big sister.

Vacation is So Over!

Back to the drawing board. With all the uncertainties of camping, it was nice to return to something certain - due dates.

Turning 10

Q: What's better than turning 10?
A: Turning 10 in Murdo, South Dakota! Doesn't get any sweeter. We just returned from a week of camping in the Black Hills and boy was it fun. But we left with a 9 year old and returned with a 10 year old. Coincidentally, near Murdo is also where the time shifts back by one hour if one is due west.

Gripp Trip

Just returned from a great trip out to Santa Barbara with the lovely and talented Bev Carlson to see our new best friend, Parry Gripp (founder of the Nerf Herders and creator of the totally awesome album "For Those About to Shop, We Salute You") He and his wife make for gracious hosts and Bev and I are furiously calculating when and how we can fanagle another trip.

Castle

Looks like a fun place to live. Kids?

Relatives

Cousin Earnie's in town for the RV show and he's staying with us. Funny, seeing as he's got a humongo motorhome parked outside.

Saga of the Mystery Case: 02

Here's a pic of the case open with a false interior of micro-plywood. I'm anticipating lots of hinges and screws and I'm going to need a semi-firm foundation.

Little Elephant, Big Head

Some old sketches I found today.

Pee Wee Spot

A little spot recently done for Boy's Life. It's for an article on school backpack safety. I wonder if they've made one with lumbar support.

Happy Birthday David!

What more could you ask for? Good company, a tropical cake lovingly crafted by your mom and an afternoon of crime fighting. Happy 7th, son.

Pee Wee for September 07

Just finished September's PW. I usually feel like doing a little happy dance when I finish one but it's usually late at night and I'm tired. So I celebrate by turning off my computer and crawling into bed. Wheee!

Another One...

Some old drawings for puppet ideas. Is that Sven? I think so. I can see right through him. Typical.

Percy Keese Fitzhugh

I just finished the most delightful little book recounting the life and work of Percy Keese Fitzhugh the creator of my buddy, Pee Wee Harris. I was sent a copy by the author, Jeff Rhoads (a Percy encyclopedia and a very good writer). You too may own a copy by going to www.bridgeboro.com or www.booksurge.com.

Gotsta Love the ol' Moleskin

Came across this little entry in my sketchbook.

The poem should read:

Johanne Sebastian
Xavier Splorn
If asked very nicely
Will toot his own horn

With his instrument on hand
(Or "on head" as it were)
His mind blowing music's
A treat to endure!

O.k., o.k., Longfellow it aint'.

An Old Promo

Came across this illustration done years ago. Had big plans to make postcards, send them out to potential clients, keep a record of who got one and who responded. But then I think a Seinfeld rerun was on and I got distracted.

The Gang's All Here!

I didn't think they could do it but three Adair children spent the night in a very small tent.

Hail, Hail...

We had quite a nice and brief hail storm yesterday which produced what you see in these pots. The kids had a nice time at the hail harvest.

Here are Ilene as Princess Peach and Dad as Bowser. Costumes carefully constructed by Mr. David Adair.

Spot Finished

It's nice to do a simple spot illustration once in a while. No complicated compositions or shoe-horning a story into one comics page. Just a little drawing and a quick read.

An Oldie

An old idea that wasn't taken. I think it'd make me feel better.
